Since September 11, 2009, Eastern Christian has been privileged to award the September 11th Academic Scholarship to one incoming 8th and one incoming 12th grade student. The scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement, character, community service, and commitment to Jesus Christ. This year the scholarships were awarded to Joanna Mas (8th) and Rebecca Parker (12th).

The scholarship was established by an anonymous donor to commemorate September 11, 2001. The inspiration for the September 11th Academic Honor Scholarship comes directly from the Biblical account of Joseph’s reunification with his brothers found in Genesis 50, which includes Joseph’s statement: “you intended to harm me, but God has intended it for good…”  The evil of September 11, 2001 was devised to bring destruction but God will use it to bring restoration. Receipt of this scholarship is a reminder that God restores and turns events intended for evil into true blessings.
